Frida Kahlo was born on July 6, 1907 in the house of her parents, known as La Casa Azul (The Blue House), in Coyoacán. At the time, this was a small town on the outskirts of Mexico City.Frida Kahlo was a Mexican Surrealist painter who has achieved international popularity. She typically painted self-portraits using vibrant colours in a style that was influenced by cultures of Mexico as well as influences from European Surrealism. Her self-portraits were often an expression of her life and her pain. For most of her life Frida Kahlo was eclipsed by the fame of her lover and husband Diego Rivera, an incredibly influential Mexican muralist. Her life was intrinsically interwoven with the life of Diego Rivera and he was a major theme in her artwork.
