Title: Tree of Hope
Year: 1946
Size: Oil on Masonite (22" x 16")

What is it about?
In Tree of Hope, Frida Kahlo drew herself in traditional Mexican costume holding the brace that she also wears to keep her back and shoulders in line. She holds a flag proclaiming that the tree of hope keeps her firm. She also shows herself with back and scares revealed, making the connection between her cracked body and the desolation of the landscape. The two images of Frida Kahlo are like day and night. Here Frida Kahlo draws the analogy between her experience and her Mexican homeland.
