Spirit of Youth – the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games Logo – celebrates Singapore 2010 in an adventurous, open and fun way. It evokes the Singaporean sense of confidence and progress.
The three distinct elements of the logo are…
1. The Flame of Passion: The intense red flame represents the passion to learn and the powerof positive thinking. Red is also the national colour of Singapore.
2. The Star of Champions: The rich purple star symbolises excellence and the pride of representing one’s nation.
3. The Crescent of Tomorrow: The crescent reflects dynamic youth, full of promise. It has the lushgreen and calm blue colours of a tropical island city.
4. The Singapore 2010 Wordmark: Its active appearance comprises individual and unique charactersthat signify harmony among the diverse participants.

SINGAPORE 2010 YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES LOGOFirstly, the logo must reflect the Singapore identity. Singapore is known as the Lion City worldwide and thus, I use a stylised lion head to represent our distinct nation. With a smile on its youthful face, Singapore will be seen as not only serious about making this event a success but ensuring that we are totally friendly and accessible to all the participants worldwide.Secondly, the lion head is drawn to look like a torch flame to depict the youthful spirit of the participants. To that, I recommend the tagline “Be the light of our future.” After all, youths are our future and with them being the light, our world will be a better one.Thirdly, the five values of olympism are represented by the five locks/arches of the mane around the face of the lion. Together with the other 21 locks/arches that creates the whole mane, the 26 locks/arches also represent all the games that will be played in YOG 2010. The red, orange and yellow colours gives vibrancy and it is attractive to all crowds including children and youth. Yet, it is sophisticated enough for the adults. The logo exudes professionalism in the highest order as well as great dignity, thus embodying the spirit of the games.

The event marks the start of a competition to design the 2010 Olympic Winter Games emblem - destined to become one of the most recognized logos in the world over the next six years and beyond. The conference will thoroughly detail the unique history and significance of Olympic design and the values behind it, and outline the vision and logo design expectations for the 2010 Games.
"The Olympic brand is the most recognized and enduring of any in the world," said VANOC Chief Executive Officer John Furlong. "For athletes and volunteers, the Olympic Games are a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. That's exactly how a designer must feel about creating an Olympic Games emblem. After all, no other piece of work in a design portfolio will get the sort of international attention that comes from designing a logo for the world's greatest sporting event. This is an extraordinary opportunity."
